The public perception of “nuclear” is often linked with strong emotions. It is our responsibility to explain the risks of radiation as well as the benefits of nuclear and nuclear-assisted technologies. Complex issues have to be communicated in an understandable manner for the respective audience, be it an interested audience with certain prior knowledge, the children's university, or a skeptical audience. We explain the nature of radiation in the spirit of Marie Curie’s famous quote, “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.“
