Zita Szentkirályi (nee Csendes) was born in Kiskunfélegyháza, Hungary, in 1987. She attended the University of Szeged from 2005 until 2014, where she received her Diploma and Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. István Pálinkó.

After a seven-month postdoctoral stay at the University of Oulu with Prof. Krisztián Kordás, she won the Lise Meitner Programme to conduct research with Prof. Karl Kirchner and Prof. Helmuth Hoffmann at the Vienna University of Technology. In 2018 she was awarded the Hertha Firnberg Programme to carry out a research project. At the moment, she is developing her independent career as a tenure track Assistant Professor. She is author of over 30 research publications in peer-reviewed journals (h-index 12).

Her expertise is centered around the chemical modification of solid surfaces, immobilization of transition metal complexes, and their application as catalysts. Her main research goal is to bridge the gap between classical homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis using the supported ionic liquid phase method which can lead to the development of eco-friendly, sustainable catalytic processes.
