In recent years, target oriented chemical research has experienced some revolutionary developments. With the development of instrument assisted synthetic methods, the compound output of chemical laboratories could be massively increased. The recently emerging concept of flow chemistry seems to satisfy these expectations to a high degree. As soon as a transformation is optimized to proceed in a suitable reaction device under continuous flow the compound output is only determined by how long the production is continued. Additionally, the laminar flow of certain systems also enables consecutive “plugs” of substrate containing streams to be processed in a sequential manner and the automation of handling allows for the preparation of compound libraries for otherwise repetitive operations.
