SMARTbeetle - Smell-based Molecular Artificial Intelligence to Fight Bark Beetles
Interreg AT-CZ
SMARTbeetle is a collaborative project in the framework of the EU funding programme Interreg Austria–Czech Republic - Project number: ATCZ00158.
Funding period: 2024-2028
SMARTbeetle aims to protect forests and preserve biodiversity by developing highly effective attractants for bark beetles. These pheromones will be evaluated in model membrane system and under natural field conditions to enable earlier and more targeted pest control. By integrating state-of-the art chemistry, molecular biology, and AI-driven approaches, the project establishes a sustainable methodology that strengthens ecological stability while minimizing the need for pesticides.
