Interested in Joining the Team?
The Protein Chemistry lab is always seeking motivated researchers who want to develop their expertise and contribute to our projects at the interface of chemistry and biology!
PhD positions
If you are enthusiastic and interested in Chemical Biology and would like to work on a challenging research project in the growing interdisciplinary field of protein chemistry, please apply by email to Dr. Anne Conibear. The application should include a motivation letter briefly describing why you are interested in our research, and how you would like to contribute to new or ongoing projects in the lab, your academic CV, university degree certificates and transcript, and contact details of two academic referees.
To enrol as a PhD student, you will need to have completed a master or diploma curriculum in chemistry or biochemistry, or closely related field. (Or equivalent international qualifications for admission to TU Wien doctoral programmes)
Previous experience in any of the following will be of benefit: peptide synthesis, protein expression and purification, mammalian cell culture or protein NMR spectroscopy.
Funded open positions will be advertised here: Currently no open positions.
If you are interested in future positions in the lab, you can fill in an Expression of Interest form here. Please email this together with your CV to Dr. Anne Conibear. When positions open up, you will be contacted if your background and interests fit the profile of the position.

Postdoc positions
Motivated and talented postdoc applicants with a strong background in peptide or protein chemistry, organic synthesis, biochemistry, or NMR spectroscopy are encouraged to contact Dr. Anne Conibear by e-mail, including your academic CV and a description of your research interests detailing how your experience can contribute to new or ongoing projects in the lab.
***Open Post-doc position!***
A funded post-doc position in protein chemistry is currently available for a motivated PhD graduate with a background in protein chemistry/structural biology/biochemistry. Further information and application details here.

Potential postdoc researchers are expected to apply for funding through local or international programs. If you would like to apply for a fellowship, please contact me well before the application deadline, with details of the program you plan to apply for and what you would like to work on so that I can support you with the application and work on the grant proposal with you.

Exchange students
We welcome international visitors at all levels of experience. The working language in the lab is English. If you are interested in spending some time with us in beautiful Vienna, please contact Dr. Anne Conibear, describing what you would like to do and giving details of your current position or study program.
Applications through established exchange programs are encouraged:
Master's Thesis students
Master's thesis projects (usually 6 months) give you the chance to get stuck into a research project and deepen your skills in one or more of the techniques listed above.
For currently open projects, see further details here: MSc project 1 and MSc project 2.
If you are interested in applying, please email Dr. Anne Conibear with a brief motivation in English or German, a list of the courses and grades you have completed and your potential timeframe.
Bachelor's Theses and undergraduate research internships (Wahlpraktika)
These short research projects (usually 4-6 weeks) give you an opportunity to get to know the lab and gain experience in some fundamental aspects of protein chemistry, typically with a project linked to a current PhD or postdoc project.
Depending on the project, techniques you will learn in the lab could include:
- Solid phase peptide synthesis
- Protein ligation and modification – native chemical ligation, protein conjugation
- Protein/peptide purification – affinity purification, HPLC
- Protein expression in bacteria and isotope labelling
- Protein structural biology – peptide and protein NMR spectroscopy
- Protein characterisation – mass spectrometry, stability, binding interactions
If you are interested in applying, please email Dr. Anne Conibear with a brief motivation in German or English, a list of the courses and grades you have completed and your potential timeframe.
