Research

The Mihovilovic research group is active in many fields of bioorganic synthesis. Besides basic investigations of biocatalytic- and metal-assisted transformations also target-oriented projects concerning the discovery of new drugs are pursued. Additionally, research projects are underway with the aim to synthesis biofuels or fuel additives from regrowing resources (carbohydrates) which are not in competition to the food industry. A field entered very recently by the Mihovilovic group is instrument-assisted synthesis. Within the last year, one of the most advanced flow-chemistry labs in central Europe was established (partially funded from the LION and innovative-projects programs initiated by VUT). Currently, the Mihovilovic group extended its strong biocatalytic orientation towards the very young research area of systems bio(techno)logy. Additional information to all these topics can be found following the corresponding links.
The projects cover subjects spanning from basic research until strongly application oriented programs. Regarding funding, long term contracts with national (FWF, AWS, BMWF) and European (EU-FP7) as well as several companies provide a secure financial background.
