CV

Michael J. Fink received his B.Sc. in Technical Chemistry in 2008 and his M.Sc. in Synthetic Chemistry both from the VUT in 2009. Since February 2009 he is conducting research as a project assistant within the Oxygreen Project in Prof. Mihovilovic’s group. The main focus of his Ph.D. research lies in biocatalytic approaches towards bulk commercial compounds as well as flavors and fragrances.

Research Topic

Microbial Baeyer-Villiger Oxidations & Aroma Compound Synthesis

Implementing the well established microbial Baeyer-Villiger oxidation methodology in our group, the focus of research lies in the synthesis of various aroma lactones. This technology allows for a sustainable and green route towards these mostly known and very important products for the food and cosmetics industry. Complementing this, screening studies with non-target oriented substrates are performed in order to complete and expand our understanding of substrate acceptance and stereochemical preference of our enzyme strains.
